Sarcopenia–––Screening DiagnosisPrevention

  • Self-assessments can be used to evaluate the risk of sarcopenia if subject presents the above symptoms.
  • It can be used to evaluate individual’s balance, gait, strength and endurance.
  • Clinical diagnosis may be consulted if subject presents low gait speed, grip strength and low short physical performance battery score (SPPB).

Self-assessments:

(1) Measure gait speed (At risk: <0.8m/s).
Instruction: Walk 4 meters with or without aid at their usual pace, and time the task. Gait speed was calculated as distance walked (m) divided by time (s).

(2) SPPB.
